Washer Not Filling With Water in Philadelphia.

A washer that starts its cycle but never takes water has a problem in the fill path, not in the motor or the drum. That is a short list of parts, all of them cheap and all of them on the van, so this is usually a one-visit repair.

  • Does the washer power on and start its cycle, but no water comes in?
The straightforward case

Yes narrows it a lot. The machine has power, the control board is working, and it is asking for water that is not arriving. That points at the fill path: the inlet valve, the screens behind it, the hoses, or the switch that tells the machine how full it is. None of those are big parts.

Why it happens

Why a washer stops filling with water.

The usual culprits, in plain words. I confirm which one it is before quoting anything.
01

Failed water inlet valve

This is the electric valve that opens to let water in. It has a hot side and a cold side, and they fail one at a time, which is why a machine can still fill on warm but not on cold. It is the most common cause and a straightforward replacement.
02

Clogged inlet screens

Small filter screens sit where the hoses meet the machine, and city sediment packs them solid over the years. Water trickles in or stops entirely. Sometimes this is a cleaning rather than a part, and we say so.
03

Water-level or pressure switch

The machine measures its own water level through a thin air hose. If that hose splits or clogs, or the switch fails, the washer believes it is already full and never opens the valve at all.
04

Door lock or lid switch

Most machines will not take water until they know the door is locked. A worn lock or lid switch leaves the machine sitting there, lit up and silent, and it looks exactly like a water problem.

How much does it cost to fix a washer that will not fill?

Every visit starts with a flat $89 diagnostic, and that $89 is applied to the repair. Every job is backed 90 days. If it is not worth fixing, I tell you that instead of selling you a repair.

Why is my washer not filling with water?
The most common cause is the water inlet valve, followed by clogged screens where the hoses connect. It can also be the water-level switch telling the machine it is already full, or a door lock that has to close before the machine will take water.
My washer fills on hot but not on cold. Is that the same problem?
Usually yes. The inlet valve has a separate solenoid for each side, and they fail one at a time. One side working is actually a helpful clue, because it rules out the water supply and the control board.
How much does it cost to fix a washer that will not fill?
Every visit starts with a flat $89 diagnostic and that $89 is applied to the repair. You get a clear price before any work begins, and the job is backed 90 days.
Can this be fixed in one visit?
Almost always. The inlet valve, the screens and the water-level switch are common parts we carry, so we usually diagnose and finish the repair in the same trip.
